Horse Head Tutorial Step by Step A

Description

Welcome to my first black horse tutorial step by step!
This is my technique to paint digital horses with my Hanvon Art Master graphic tablet.
I use Photoshop 7. YES the medieval Photoshop 7!;)
The tools i use are simple, so I guess you can use the same tools in all other Photoshop versions.:)
All stages are numbered and all the tools I used are visible with modus and %.
I don´t know all the english tool and brush names because I use the german Photoshop version.:)
Please watch brush details by yourself in the pictures.:) Watch in full view!
Note me for questions.
Ok let´s start:

1. Open your sketch.( for me the most important things on a sketch are the shape and
proportion. All details follow later! )
This is the BASIC LAYER.
2. Make a new layer on top and choose a colour.
This layer is the BASIC COLOUR.
3. Colour the complete shape.
4. Make a second layer on top. Choose a darker colour (not totally black) for the
BASIC SHADINGS.
5. Start to draw the BASIC SHADINGS.
The BASIC COLOUR layer is blind, it is not necessary but you can see the shadings more
clearly. (to make a layer blind “click” on the eye symbol )
6. The BASIC SHADINGS are ready so far. The colour is very dark but not totally black.
7. The BASIC COLOUR layer is visible again.
8. I use the “Blur Tool” to give some parts of the shadings “a soft look”.
9. I use the “Eraser” to make some parts of the shadings a little bit transparent.
10.I use the “Smudge Tool” to make the first details on the BASIC SHADINGS.
11. Make a new layer between the BASIC SHADINGS and the BASIC COLOUR.
12. Choose a lighter colour as the BASIC SHADINGS.
13. I use the brush tool to draw the SECOND SHADINGS.
14. I use the “Eraser”, ”Blur” and “Smudge” tools again for a soft look and details.
15. Make a new layer above the BASIC COLOUR and choose a colour for the third
shadings.
16. Draw the third shadings.
17. I use the “Blur”,” Eraser” and “Smudge Tool” again. The colour doesn´t fit. I open
the “Hue / Saturation” window and change it. When the shadings are ready, i put all layers
together on the BASIC COLOUR except the BASIC LAYER. (click on the top layer
and use “Strg + E to put layers together )
18. Make a new layer above the BASIC COLOUR and set the layer modus on “Softlight”.
Choose the colour white and start to draw the first highlights.
19. This time i use the “Gaussian Blur” for a soft look.
20. Adjust the in the intensity of the “Gaussian Blur”.
